This fourteenth episode of Real Good Songs with Camden Joy continues my mini-series about Surviving the Eighties which offers reminders of how we made it through the dark ages in a hunkered-down sorta stance, finding pockets of solace in songs that were pretty rarely on radio. Those Eighties were the last decade of recording industry domination, with all the entrances guarded. Even then though not everything that gained the industry seal of approval was crap. Exhibit A: Rickie Lee Jones. The year: 1981. I remember the excitement when her career was young and it felt like she could develop into something truly strange and beautiful. Remember?
